Mike Huckabee slipped up and said what he actually wanted to instead of keeping on his talking point. He backtracked when asked if he wanted to have a law passed that would limit the media's ability to talk about the shootings. "No, when I say that I'm saying it rhetorically because the President is always wanting to pass a law."

He was trapped between the republican talking point that "the real problem behind the mass shootings is the media not the guns" and the tea party ideal of never passing any law or having government do anything. He had painted himself into a crazy people corner so he had to say he didn't really mean for a law to be passed. No laws! The government shouldn't actually do anything! He forgot for a moment who his base was.
